Universal bank are based along the main rd from Bogaz ro Famagusta past the Moon over the water restaurant and on the opposite side in the parade where the mini soctors surgery  and chemist are. They all speak excellent English and are very helpful in setting up your direct debit for electric etc. Reghards.

Universal don't do net banking.

Some others do but do not have local branches.

Like many others we went to Creditwest in Magusa opposite astro supermarket. Ayse katip is the lady there who deals with expats and will; fix you up with net access to your accounts. But even then the facility is limited. You can't shift cash around as you would with a UK based account.

But they have just announced use of the new hand-held electronic gismo for online banking that some banks in UK are using, so hope is on the horizon.

Hi Guinness,

Thanks for your help. I've just been on Universal Banks website and they say their new internet banking service is up and running. I'm in Iskele in August so I will try and set up an account when I'm there and ask about the internet site. Thanks again for your help.

OK Spud.

I appreciate that times change, but just check that they are offering interactive banking. When I asked them about their new service they said that I would be able to 'look at your accounts'. When asked more questions they said that interactive was not yet planned. So I went elsewhere.

(its hot in Iskele at present !)

BANKING - written on the 27th Jun 2009 - 9:00 - Message #7

The Kooperative Bank - main branch in Iskele has branches in Gazi and up the Karpaz in Yenierenkoy.

It has a fully working interactive internet system in English.

You can also transfer money from your UK bank internet service  to their account in the UK so there are no transfer fees.  They pick it up and put it in your TRNC account and convert it YTL ( or leave it as GBP if you have that type of account)

Initially I e-mailed to say that I had transfered money and they picked it up but I did try a 20GBP transfer without telling anyone and they picked it up anyway.

The last transfer I did didn't seem to have any charges for the pick up and conversion and was in my TRNC account in two days!!

They set up payment systems for the water, electric, council tax payments and they are now paid direct from the Koop account.

Set up was easy - all done in half an hour in the Iskele branch.  The persons that do it all speak good english as well as the people who reply to e-mails.

Great info there from Tom, sounds the best bet.

Yes its still hot but cloudy Saturday with a spot of rain when we drove west. Its in the mid/high 30's outside and 29/30 inside until well into the evening.

I think you are at Caesar Spud, I hope you have aircon to knock down the temp in the evenings!  As soon as the breeze stops then it boils inside.

cheers

My memory tends to be 'fish like' nowadays and I only visited it once but the Koop is not far from the big car park in the centre. Its on   Dr.Kucuk Caddesi

Details of the bank and its branch address is here

Iskele map here ( showing bank and the road its on)

Thanks again Tom for your great help, I know where the Ko op bank is now thanks to your map.

I think that the Ko op must be the bank for me from the information you have given me.

I am at Caesar, Guinn, Augustus block, top floor. Not had a/c fitted yet but hope to before I take the kids out in August. Where are you guys based?

Regards,

Banking - written on the 4th Jul 2009 - 10:37 - Message #12

Hi Martin

We are up the pan handle a bit more on one of the Tanyel estates near Yenierenkoy.

You may have better local info at your end about getting air con fitted but we used a chap called Enver on 00903923650481.  I think he is in Gazimaguza.

His lads did a very good, quick and neat fitting of our units.  He charged 220GBP fitted for a larger living area unit.

Have a good time in August.  If you want more info on the Karpaz area have a look at www.karpazinfo.net
